00286 Jersey egg

Went to Jersey for an "overnight holiday". Weather was very overcast and so the light was flat as a pancake. It's strengthened my resolve to get a strobe kit to light things like the eggs when the light is so soft. Eggs need a little hard light to bring them out. Well, that's what I think anyway.

Greve de Lec Egg

This was taken at Greve de Lec and what amazing sand they've got there, it's coarse, but smooth. Weird, huh?

00285 Staff Picks

So I looked at the list of books picked out by the staff at Blurb and mines on it.

'Course, I don't know if it's any good, seeing as I haven't got mine yet.

But it's on the way.

Tee hee.

00284 Ordered

I put up the book on Blurb and ordered a copy. I'm obviously obsessing too much over this, otherwise I'd have time to do and write about something interesting.

Here's the book's page.

00282 Booky booky

Blurb book

It's getting close to the time when I can hit the "order book" button, which is proper nice.
I'm just struggling through the last bits that bother me, like whether the images will print out as I want them to, what colours (if any) to use and what words to put in.
When it's all done, it'll be 160 pages long. That might be too big for most people, but for a cheap hardback photo album, it'll suit me just fine.

00275 Roquaine egg

Sand a bit bitty, with tiny little stones, but very fine and irresistable. Kids off with Grandma collecting crabs n' shells. Time to make an egg:

00266 Eggs as promised

Here's the images of the egg from the video below. This was the first time I've made one so soon after high tide. As a result there was a pool of sea water waiting for me about six inches from the surface, not necessarily a bad thing, mind.

I quite like the in situ image. It's subtle but noticeable.

00265 Egg video

SO we went to Petit Port today and with all this new time-lapsey stuff, it only seemed right and proper that there be a video of egg making. And lo! there was an egg video:

00218 Mini egg

As an experiment I did this little egg at Petit Port, but to be honest, it's as much work as a large one. However I did get round to sorting out the finishing a bit better - instead of flattening the sand around the egg, I've started doing a swirly, cyclonic pattern, it works much better:

Small egg

And here, for comparison are mine, Meriel's and Jonah's:

In all fairness to Jonah, he hadn't quite finished before the tide came in and washed it all away. However he did get to jump on mine as is tradition after the photos are done:

Half an hour or so at Petit Port and as usual, I could have done with an hour to get it just right. The difference this time was that I got to make three, so I'm trying out the "missing egg" thing. The jury's out for me on this one. I though multiple eggs would be a winner, but I'm not so sure Publishnow.

00185 Eggy

I meant to do this for so long, but as per usual I either never had the time, or I ws with small kids, who ran all over it. The plan was to do several of these dotted around a small area, but that takes time - which is difficult to come by.
Still, now I managed to take a picture of one, I'll probably be motivated to do it again.
