00394 Renaissance

They're coming. Only allot slower than I thought they would:

Accident

Boxes, glass and electronic components:

Box & glass

Touch sensitive switch

Soon to be joined in a miraculous trinity.

The last one here is particularly awesome, being as it is, a touch switch to turn on an LED (or anything else). So I'll be using that one to light the boxes internally. As to what will go inside, only time will tell.

00393 Boxing days

Boxes are here and there are going to be many more to come.

I'll be thinking outside them to begin with, but only because they're smaller than my head:

Boxes

Boxes Boxes

I dare anyone to call this a waste of time.

00391 Posing bear

Cara got this teddy from her teacher - they all get a chance to look after it.

And my, didn't we all have fun?

No.

Just me:

00390 Shelved ideas

I had these ideas, but I haven't actually shelved them yet.

However, I have inherited a spectacularly large wood pile from teh recent disembowelment of Jonah's Scout hut (that's not a euphemism).

Anyhoo, they certainly won't end up looking like this:

Concept shelves 3

Problem is, Sketchup just doesn't live in the real world and the way they stay on the wall won't just be because they just ARE there.

Having said that, it's filters rock something aweful (that's like "aweful" from the olde dayes)

00389 The Eggsecutions

Sometimes it's OK to let life just drift by - we've all been passengers when we could have been drivers.

But some things you just can't pass without saying "Hey!" and "Hold it right there!" and "What're you doing with my trousers?".

Sometimes you just have to put you're foot down and say "No more".

I put my foot down - sure I did!

And when I put my foot down there was a crunch, and that's when I knew that things would never be the same.

(although some other things were actually quite similar to the way they were before, but I'm not talking about those things)

It's about justice. It's about taking a stand. But mostly, it's about eggs.

00388 Holey bowley

Following the discovery that barrel hinges leave you with a box with no obvious way to open it, I woke up one morning at 5 o'clock and couldn't sleep with the excitement of finding a viable solution.

On the down side, I had to compromise on the minimal use of power tools, on the upside I borrowed a router. So courtesy of Dan, here's the result:

The three holes

Lovely bowl shapes. Look great when painted, images of the final board to follow.

If you're planning an eggsecution, you should test your equipment & methods rigourously:

I hate them, all of them, with their funny little shells and their oblate spherics. They will all perish - mark my words.

00384 Backgammony production line

Backgammon

So I finally got to taking pictures of the board with the Holga and 35mm film, but the lab wouldn't/couldn't scan the negs right up to the sprocket holes, so I did it myself (so there).

Anyhoo, more importantly (and here we see the relativity of words played out to their greatest extents) I am in production. There are two completed boards and three works in progress. It appears that now I have a method of fabricating the boards with consistent results, and so it now seems a natural thing that the painted points are just like a canvas and the board itself is just a frame. So I'm experimenting with different types of techniques and varying colours to get cool results and if I don't like them, well, it's only a small piece of wood and I won't bother to frame it.

Current favourite methodology is to apply Frisket film, mark with a stencil and cut before spraying and finally ripping off the film with a satisfying flourish.

New stencil film test

Results are very, very good (almost too good):

Points

2 x Points

- that one with the red tips is the bomb and as a result I will keep it to myself and guard it with a shotgun (along with all the others).

And the magnets are just awesome as a method of keeping the box closed, in fact they're too good. I really need a way to open the box easily, seeing as you can't very well play it with the lid closed (I've met sooooo many people with telekenisis and loads with x-ray vision, but very few with both). I now have a solution. It's awesome, and it's in the post. Eeek!

Oh, and here's a picture of the workshop wall. It's so pimp (if your pimp is lazy, fat and ugly).

00383 Taken!

OMFG!

I was just mailing Pedro about using one of his images of UFOs to make a picture with little people depicting an alien abduction, but just as I was coming home the other day, I saw it happen! FOR REAL!!!!!

Taken!

Wow!

They'll probably cut off his goolies and everything.

00381 Backgammon boards are here again

Sing along now.

The last backgammon post was back at post 00253.

The whole "evening class backgammon board" thing just ran plain out of steam what with not being able to use half the tools (health and safety).

So after a brief period of mourning for the old design (which I might revisit one day), I've taken the attitude that hand tools and cheap materials are the way to go.

And, glory be, I'm so happy with the result.

From this:

Materials Strips from the pallet

To this:

Piece Doubling cube

Now all I need is a stiff drink, a dinner jacket, a pocket full of cash, an admiring crowd and a rich adversary bent on world domination.

I'll probably need to get some panache, too.

It's so analogue, it hurts, mainly just around the wallet. What's the attraction of not seeing the images you shoot straight away? Dunno. It's like a fashion or something.
